Katherine Choy Ceramic Vase
Ceramic vase by Katherine Choy. Blue glaze with incised design around the entire piece. 1950s. Signed Choy.
Condition: Excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs.
Dimensions: 5” Diameter x 4.25” High
Katherine Poyu Choy (1929–1958) immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong in 1946. She attended Wesleyan College in Georgia before moving to California. At Mills College in Oakland, CA she studied pottery with F. Carlton Ball and Antonio Preito . While in the Bay Area, she collaborated with Jade Snow Wong. Choy would go onto to study with Maija Grotell at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1952 Choy became the director of ceramics at Newcomb College in New Orleans. In 1957 she founded the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY.
